Brain Camps

Brain Camp Yng

Brain Camp Yng is a program for children and teenagers aged 6 to 16 who have acquired a brain injury, along with one of their parents or caregivers. Over the course of a week filled with engaging activities, families come together to share experiences, build confidence, and develop strategies for navigating a new reality.

For many, an acquired brain injury can be an invisible challenge, yet it profoundly impacts both the child and their family. Daily life may change drastically, requiring new ways to cope, adapt, and rediscover joy in everyday activities.

Some children and teenagers struggle to reconnect with an active and meaningful life, while others find social interactions difficult and need extra support to regain confidence and establish a new normal based on their individual abilities.

Brain Camp Yng follows the principles of Active Rehabilitation, where participation, peer support, and physical activity play a central role. Through adapted activities, children are encouraged to challenge themselves, experience mastery, and rediscover the joy of movement and participation.

At the same time, parents and caregivers receive valuable support and guidance. The camp serves as an important meeting place where parents can connect with others in similar situations, share experiences, exchange knowledge, and build a strong support network. Many families find that these connections become an essential source of understanding, encouragement, and long-term support even after the camp ends.

The combination of peer mentorship, professional guidance, and structured activities creates a setting where both children and parents can gain new perspectives, explore opportunities, and rebuild a sense of hope.

For many participants, attending Brain Camp Yng becomes a turning point—a moment when they start to see possibilities instead of limitations, gain confidence in their abilities, and take the first steps toward a more active and fulfilling life.

Brain Camp Alumni

Brain Camp Alumni is a program based on the Active Rehabilitation model, designed for young people aged 13 to 21 who have acquired a brain injury. This initiative provides a supportive community where participants can connect, learn, and grow alongside peers who share similar experiences.

The primary goal of Brain Camp Alumni is to help participants expand their social network, increase their independence, and share experiences related to adolescence, school, friendships, and everyday challenges. We recognize that navigating life with a brain injury can be complex, and having a strong peer network can make a significant difference.

A key feature of the program is our young mentors—individuals who have experienced brain injuries themselves. These mentors provide inspiration, guidance, and practical advice, offering insights from their own journeys. Their firsthand experience helps participants gain confidence, develop coping strategies, and see new possibilities for their future.

In addition to discussions and peer support, Brain Camp Alumni includes a variety of exciting and engaging activities in and around Bergen. These activities are designed to be both fun and empowering, encouraging participants to challenge themselves, try new things, and build lasting memories in a supportive environment.

The program is conducted in close collaboration with The Vitality Center for Children and Youth (EBU) and the Habilitation Service for Children and Adolescents at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen. This partnership ensures that the camp is rooted in expert knowledge and best practices, providing a safe and structured setting for personal growth and development.

By participating in Brain Camp Alumni, young people gain valuable social connections, self-confidence, and life skills that help them navigate their journey towards greater independence and an active, fulfilling life.
