Active Rehabilitation
The Sunnaasstiftelsen Foundation develops and implements a wide range of initiatives designed to enhance the lives of people with disabilities, both in Norway and internationally. Our work focuses on creating opportunities that promote independence, social participation, and personal growth through innovative programs and tailored activities.
A cornerstone of our efforts is the Active Rehabilitation concept, which empowers individuals with disabilities by fostering self-reliance, mastery, and motivation to become active members of society. Through this model, we use sports and physical activity, combined with peer mentorship, to help participants build confidence in their own abilities. By engaging with experienced role models who have faced similar challenges, participants gain practical skills, motivation, and a sense of belonging, which are essential for leading fulfilling lives.
Another important part in our consept for Active Rehabilitation is healthcare professionals, who create a safe and structured environment for participants to explore their potential. Their expertise ensures that each individual receives the guidance, support, and adaptations necessary to push personal boundaries while minimizing risk.
Active Rehabilitation also serves as a meeting place for healthcare professionals, fostering knowledge-sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration. By bringing together specialists from different fields, we facilitate competence exchange, best-practice discussions, and professional development, ultimately strengthening rehabilitation services across the sector.
Our approach is based on the belief that an active lifestyle can significantly improve physical and mental health, as well as increase opportunities for education, employment, and social integration. By equipping participants with the tools to overcome barriers, we help them become more self-sufficient and capable of pursuing their personal and professional aspirations.
To ensure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of our programs, we collaborate with leading research institutions, including SINTEF, NTNU, and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. We systematically measure and analyze the impact of our projects, using evidence-based insights to refine our methods and develop even better opportunities for our target groups.
Through our commitment to innovation, research, and hands-on engagement, the Sunnaasstiftelsen Foundation strives to make a lasting difference in the lives of people with disabilities—empowering them to take charge of their future and actively contribute to society.
